Exposed. Helen Day Art Center, Stowe VT

My pieces for the outdoor sculpture exhibit, Exposed, are up and on view now through October 12, 2013. The staff of the Helen Day Art Center did an outstanding job organizing and publicizing the exhibition. In fact, it is the best-publicized show that I have ever participated in!

You can listen to an audio file in which I describe the pieces that are on view here.

Plexi laser-cut wall sculptures

During this hot and humid spell in Boston, I've been holed up in my air conditioned studio playing around with the Plexiglass laser cut outs I had made way back this past spring. I worked with them during my residency at Vermont Studio Center in March, but I revisited them just now to see how they might look with painting a color directly behind the cut outs. Each cut out is hung about 4 inches away from the wall in order to capture the cast shadows. I think that the painted wall gives the Plexi pieces more weight and interest.

The Plexi pieces are painted with acrylic on the back, so that the shiny surface is facing the viewer while still giving color to the shapes.
