Doodlemania in Stowe - my piece for Exposed

I am thrilled to be participating in the 22nd annual outdoor sculpture exhibition, Exposed , thanks to the Helen Day Art Center in Stowe, Vermont. Yesterday, I installed my  pieces - yes, two! This piece is created using sticky vinyl and is adhered directly to the 7' x 7' glass window to the left of the front door of the Black Cap Cafe on Rte. 100 in the center of Stowe. This piece is a composition bringing together fragments of tiny doodles that I collected from some of the customers at the Black Cap Cafe during March of 2013. Other doodles were solicited from artists and writers who were residents with me at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson during that same month. I sent the doodles to my friends at Boston Laser in Haverhill, MA where the images were blown up and cut out of colorful sticky vinyl. A little unnerving to create a piece with only photos and memories of the space to refer to.  The second piece is made from 3/4" MDF board, laser

Exposed!

This weekend I will be installing a new piece of public art in Stowe, Vermont . The Black Cap Cafe makes fabulous coffee drinks, and their lovely building looks to be a re-purposed Victorian house right on Rte. 100. I have two spots at the Black Cap Cafe - the 7' x 7' front left window and also the overhang on the porch. My window piece will be comprised of fragments of doodles collected from some of the Black Cap's customers as well as some of the residents I met during my March stay at Vermont Studio Center. After gathering many doodles, I chose fragments of just a few - only 5 drawings - and had them reproduced much much larger than their actual size in vinyl.  The sticky vinyl will be adhered directly to the window. Here are the images I used. I created a whimsical composition using these drawings, different colors of vinyl, and some interesting juxtapositions.  The porch will feature one of my recent doodle cut outs from MDF board. New outdoor sculptures

My latest work involves the doodle shapes cut out of MDF board using a laser and painted with acrylic paint. I want them to be able to survive out of doors for long periods of time. I took these to a local park near my house, Menotomy Rocks, where I walk my dog every morning. I really liked seeing these outside in nature. Can't wait to do more of them and also take them to different venues.

Yesterday was the opening reception for Iconic, my exhibition at The Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, MA. Here are a few nice photos from the event.
