Me, standing next to my piece, Swing 2, at the opening for the Danforth Museum annual members' show. There is some very good work in the exhibit, a wide variety, something for everyone. Some friends whose work is exhibited include Jeanne Williamson, Anne Sargent Walker, Mary Spencer, Virginia Fitzgerald, Stephen Haley, Dan Feldman, Mary Tinker Hatch, to name a few. I also connected with Barbara Grad, a fabulous artist who was my advisor in my MFA program at Mass Art back in the 1980s. A good time was had by all.

I added to the pieces in my previous post - there is a final layer of droplets that I think ties these pieces together. Sometimes it takes a while to figure out if a piece is finished... and sometimes it takes months to figure out what action will make it all work.

On Sunday, I participated in a portfolio review at a local art association. Artists had the opportunity to show a sampling of their work to curators and gallerists in the Boston area in order to get suggestions and feedback. One of gallerists I spoke to suggested that I create a wall of my smaller pieces, hung closely together. I experimented with it a little bit this morning - not sure if these are close enough, but I do like the visual buzz from being able to look back and forth at these pieces. One of the most complimentary things said to me at the portfolio review was that my abstractions speak with a contemporary vocabulary - that is, as opposed to many abstract artists who are still having a dialog with the abstract expressionists of the 1940s and 1950s. I was very pleased to hear that.

This weekend I decided to try taking my own digital, professional quality images using my little camera - and I think I succeeded. If I can manage to do this, I will save myself lots of $$. Photography expenses can be enormous, but if you have the right light set up and a copy of Photoshop, it is possible. This is a relatively new piece, part of a diptych. I like the use of white and all the little speckles of paint - I embrace the floating world.

New foray into yellow, gray and black. I just love these colors together.

Playing with layering the scribbles on to poured and transparent painted backgrounds.

Another Glyphic piece. Spills of color first, overlays of the doodle shapes in acrylic and metallic inks. I like this one because of the deeper space I create between the layers. Also, I love throwing in the humorous scribbles (the light blue one at the top). It seems so decorative and silly.

I am experimenting with different kinds of backgrounds including spills and looser paint applications. Not done yet.
